Guests, including the company’s founders Reg and Jan Freeman, attended the lunchtime celebration at the Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, head office. As well as witnessing the official presentation, everyone attending the ceremony had the opportunity to tour the company’s facility, which houses all manufacturing, R&D and commercial operations.

Ajax Equipment, Bolton, UK, has supplied bulk and packaged chemical distribution specialist Brenntag (UK), with a lump-breaker and loading table at its Newcastle-upon-Tyne blending facility. Brenntag was looking for a system to reduce the particle size of raw materials prior to blending in a reactor. Positioned above the reactor, the lump-breaker reduces the crystalline chemicals to a consistent powder size, as they are tipped into the reactor, facilitating improved blending.

2011 FIBC imports into the EU highest for three years30.07.2012

After a deep slump in 2009, FIBC (flexible intermediate bulk container) imports to the European Union climbed to a three-year high in 2011. The value of imports grew by 27% to a total of 339.2 million euros, compared with 267.5 million euros in 2010. The number of imported bulk bags, however, has still not completely caught up with the 2008 total (worth 358.8 million euros), but 2011 is already the second year of recovery.

First customer seminar at new food technology centre30.07.2012

Shortly after inaugurating the new food technology centre at its Rödemark, Germany, headquarters, Zeppelin eimelt held a two-day seminar 26-27 July at the facility on the subject of materials handling in the food industry. The 60 participants from Germany and other countries were given presentations on pneumatic conveying, mixing of bulk solids, continuous production of sourdough and dough, process control and batch tracing. In the test plant Zeppelin Reimelt engineers demonstrated dense phase trials up to distances of 320m with conveying vessel and rotary valve, precise dosing of batches using the recently acquired Kokeisl discharge and metering technology, container handling based on the ReciPure® concept and mixing. Dr Kruse, general sales manager, said that further seminars would be held in the near future.

Much of the company’s technology continues to be based around its original cone valve IBC powder discharge system for which it has become internationally famous. Matcon, with head office in Evesham, Worcestershire, and with offices and test plants strategically located throughout the world, has annual revenues of around £22M.

BHS-Sonthofen of Germany in May delivered its one-thousandth rotary pressure filter since the establishment of the company’s Filtration Technology division. The filter plant was supplied to an Asian manufacturer of cellulose derivatives. Thanks to decades of continual development, these filters are today rated for operating pressures of up to 7 bar(g) and temperatures of up to 160°C.

ACHEMA - the most international yet02.07.2012

ACHEMA 2012, which took place 18-22 June, achieved a record number of non-German exhibitors accounting for almost 50% of the total, the overall number of exhibitors and visitors having remained stable. Foreign exhibitors came from 56 countries, with more than 200 Chinese and more than 150 Indian companies presenting equipment. For five days, 167,000 participants found out about the capabilities of the 3773 exhibitors, which they presented on 136,400m² of floor space.

In mid-June industrial packaging specialist Mauser Group with worldwide headquarters in Bruehl, Germany, inaugurated its first plant in Poland. Located at Gliwice in the Silesia region, the new facility will produce UN and non-UN intermediate bulk containers (IBCs) including the SM6, SM13 and SM15 models designed specifically for handling hazardous and food-grade products. In addition it will manufacture UN-approved open-top drums of 120 and 150 litres capacity as well as 220-litre L-ring drums. Customers will also be able to benefit from the reconditioning services of the National Container Group (NCG) a Mauser subsidiary.

Drier offers optimum heat transfer for precious and sensitive products18.06.2012

Lindor, Dordrecht, the Netherlands, well known for its gentle touch mixers for food and fine chemicals, is about to unveil its latest development at the Achema global chemical exhibition which starts 18 June in Frankfurt. Designed along similar lines to the company’s rotary drum mixer, the ‘Gentle Dryer’ is a machine for impregnating, heating, drying and cooling of powders, granulate and natural products. The drum and scoops have a double wall and the machine allows for a hot airstream through the flowing product and the rotating drum. The concept has been registered for a global patent.

AVA-Huep, Herrsching, Germany, reports that production of seed blends is emerging as a new application for its mixers. The company has just delivered the first compact system to an established German seed processing company. Centre-piece of the system is an AVA HTC 350 horizontal drier which is entirely fabricated from stainless steel.
