Precision palletising of bagged milk powder
Premier Tech Chronos, with European head office in Eersel, the Netherlands, has won an order to supply an automatic GPL 250 Series palletizer to the Kanturk, Co. Cork, production plant of Irish milk powder producer North Cork Co-Op Creameries. The machine, which is a ‘Cartesian’ robot palletizer with a gantry structure, will handle up to 250 bags of milk powder per hour. During the palletising process the pallet remains stationary and the gripper head moves by means of a servo-controlled motorised mobile frame to the correct position for laying the bag in the right format on the top of the pallet.
The bag gripper has four-axis mobility, taking the bags from the feeding conveyor and depositing them on the pallet according to the pre-selected program. The bag pusher movement is controlled by a pneumatic cylinder and the gripper rotation / pusher direction allows each bag to be deposited close to or even overlapping the previous bag, producing a more stable palletised load. “We have worked very closely with Premier Tech Chronos whilst selecting this particular type of palletising system,” commented Roger McCarthy, operations manager, at North Cork Co-Op. www.ptchronos.com
