UK-based Powder Systems Ltd (PSL) recently delivered a clinical trial isolator to the new cytotoxic facility currently being built in Biasca, Switzerland, by Helsinn Advanced Synthesis SA, the chemical manufacturing business unit of the Helsinn Group. The centre, scheduled to open in 2013, will be dedicated to cytotoxic compounds that require safe product handling in a contained area for operator, environment and product protection. Scope of supply comprised a suite of high containment systems including contained agitated nutsche filter driers, charging gloveboxes with slurry vessels as well as the clinical trial isolator.
A wide range of operations will be processed inside this high containment isolator which has been designed to ensure an operator exposure level (OEL) of less than 50ng/m³ in eight hours TWA. It will allow the following operations to be performed in one unit in a completely contained environment: transfer and reactor charging; hydrogenation; filtration; drying; discharging; dispensing, packing and transfer. www.powdersystems.com
