Rubber waste cooled with liquid nitrogen A screw-type heat exchanger for cryogenic applications has been supplied by °Celsius of Drunen, the Netherlands, to Gotic, Germany, for processing disused rubber t= yres. The addition of liquid nitrogen reduces the temperature of the waste rubb= er to minus 196°C, causing it to become hard and brittle. It is then gro= und by a pin mill into a fine powder which can be reused in new rubber and synthetic products. The heat exchanger conveys the frozen rubber over a distance of 2.5m to the grinder at a rate of 1.6m³/h. www.celsius.nl
