27.10.2014 World first: versatile rotating paddle level indicator is all but maintenance-free

MBA Instruments, Quickborn, Germany, part of the SMB Group, chose the occasion of this week’s SyMas trade fair (SOLIDS Kakow) in Poland for the international launch of its novel MBA888 rotating paddle level measurement device. It is believed to be the first instrument of its type not to require regular servicing or replacement of components, as well as being suitable for use with all types of bulk solids. Like all other indicators in the MBA800 series, it has a patented stepper motor direct drive incorporating a magnetic slipping clutch. The factory preset torque and the associated switching behaviour have been optimised for use with virtually all types of bulk material. Its manufacturer states that the MBA888 has been positioned as an entry-level-priced model, making it the most cost-effective yet technically advanced level switch available.
Like other units in the MBA800 series, this latest indicator has no return spring, no leaf spring and no conventional slipping clutch. As a result it is susceptible to only very minor wear and tear. As is standard with stepper motors, power transmission is achieved contact-free via magnets. www.smb-group.de
