20.01.2014 Large tailor-made rotary valves

Rota Val, Chippenham, UK, manufactures a wide range of rotary valves and – unlike many of its competitors – is also able to build bespoke models, resulting in several long lasting partnerships with global blue-chip processing companies. One such example dates back to 1998 when Garbuio Dickinson started purchasing large rotary valves – 600 and 750mm – for its tobacco driers. These high-capacity valves incorporated many special features including the capability of operating comfortably at temperatures in excess of 200°C.

In 2001 Garbuio Dickinson approached Rota Val for bespoke sizes up to 1000mm and during the intervening years of joint collaboration over 120 of these large purpose-built rotary valves have been installed in tobacco processing plants worldwide. In the interim they have evolved technically. The complete internals and flanges are now fully fabricated with stainless steel liners, and the stainless steel rotors are currently supplied with replaceable chamfered bronze tipped blades. This prevents the possibility of product build-up and metal pick-up when utilising tight running clearances at high temperatures. Rota Val, part of the Gericke Group, plans later this year to launch a new series of modular rotary valves. www.rotaval.co.uk
