15.07.2019 JÖST celebrates centenary and appoints new managing partner

JÖST GmbH + Co. KG, Dülmen, Germany, which was founded in 1919, celebrated its 100th birthday this summer. The company is renowned worldwide for its screening technology, vibrating troughs and multi-storey spiral elevators. JÖST began trading as a simple repair shop for explosion-resistant electric motors, such as those used in the mining industry. Alongside coal production in the Ruhr region, the family business steadily expanded. In the 1950s, it delivered the first machines that employed vibratory motors: a milestone that turned out to be significant for its future. This development enabled the company to become less dependent on mining and opened up possibilities in many other industries, including food and pharmaceuticals.

Currently more than 380 staff are based at the headquarters in Westphalia, while a further 400 employees work at nine subsidiaries that help ensure close relations with customers around the globe. However, all has not always been plain sailing; by the end of the 1990s, JÖST was going through difficult times.  A new managing partner, Dr Hans Moormann took over the helm. By consistently following a strategy of restructuring and globalisation, the company managed to get back on track.

Today, on its 100th birthday, JÖST has once again experienced a change in its top management. With effect from July, Dr Marcus Wirtz, 49, becomes a managing partner alongside Dr Moormann who remains chairman of the board, a position he has held since 1999. Dr Wirtz started at JÖST in 2006. He established JOEST Inc. in Chicago, USA, and was responsible for this subsidiary becoming a major US market player. Following his return to Germany, he took over the position of vice president sales of the JÖST Group in Dülmen. Three years later, he was promoted to the position of managing director, taking over from Dr Christian Fuchs who had held this position for many years. www.joest.com
